Week’s update

July 22nd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

It seems like I’m doing a lot of these kind of bunch of stuff I did in the past (insert time period) kind of blogs…

But this past week has been kinda busy… I’ve been working at GCD all week, which isn’t so bad! I’ve been recovering from camp all week though, and I still don’t feel like I’ve fully got over it! I really ought to get some early nights…

You may remember I made a Media PC some time ago with a TV tuner to record stuff that is interesting to be watched at our (really my, because it was too difficult for my mum to use) leisure… I have been playing with it a bit this week, and found a funky new piece of software to run on it called GBPVR, it allows for much more flexibility than media portal, the interface isn’t so nice, but it can be made a lot simpler.

Last night we went to see Transformers (the movie)… It was fantastic. Totally silly and far fetched (well it IS transformers!) but very enjoyable. I think the fun that came before the ridiculous story base really made the movie, by the time it got silly I was enjoying it too much to care! Highly recommended (although not really edifying in any sense…)

Also on Friday Tommy and I went down the river which was good, but already reported on!

Bump and scrape…

We down the river last night with Tommy. Last time when I couldn’t go, he didn’t go anyway as no one would go with him! So we went down it last night, there wasn’t much water, but it was good fun anyways. There is a nice weir near the oldstone road that almost always has a surfable wave on it.
So yeah, we bumped and scraped our way down.

Good craic!

I’ve only gone and done it…

I have avoided these kinds of sites for so long… but having given in to Mixi, Facebook and having an old myspace kicking around from way back when, I’ve given into bebo…

More than anything else its to join the FAYC bebo band…

So if you are a beboer, feel free to add me…

Jarred off…

After my lack of surfing yesterday it has rained quite a bit today. Tommy has been on the blower about going down the river with the lads, but I can’t go.

On wednesday in the final game of puttocks of 2007 I pulled something a bit in my back. Nothing serious, just a big of a snag. But since getting home I’ve agrivated it with sleeping on a soft bed, lifting things badly and turning the wrong way now and then…

While I don’t feel too bad right now, I don’t want to be halfway down the river and twang it again! So I have to sit here while the lads have a blast…

Blast…

Home again

Camp was great, lots of fun as always, and very refreshing spiritually (although not physically!)

I really felt myself being brought back to the reality of my faith. The reality that easily gets lost in day to day life, even at college I find studying God and the Bible can begin to make it feel more like a textbook o piece of literature and less like God’s inspired Word. It can make God seem distant or past and the study simply an exercise in history or theory.
Camp really helped ground me again in the reality of scripture and the reality of my faith again.

But of course that’s not the real purpose of camp. The young folk all seemed to have a great time, Ricks talks also touched many of them, those with faith were refreshed (like me!) and those without were challenged with old truths, but in new ways. I think one of the most magical things about FAYC and camp particularly is how leaders and campers come together without the hard-line boundaries that other organisations have. I think it really makes a hughe difference to teenagers to feel part of the camp, with responsibilities to one another and to be close enough to the leaders to be able to enjoy company and banter together. It al makes it fun for the leaders, as we don’t feel like the bad guys. I also think giving the campers more freedom and the demonstrations of how to deal with it responsibly really help to keep camp an agreeable place and stop friction and arguments in their tracks.

We got back yesterday evening and I thoroughly enjoyed a night in my own bed!

The guys in the van got back today and it seems they are too tired to go surfing as we planned, the forecast is ok for this evening, but sucks for the rest of the week (and seems like it’s going to for a good few weeks to come with this changable weather). I’ve only been out in my boat 3 times since I got it… Hopefully it won’t have been a bad buy! Hopefully I’ll be able to get out some this July and August!
