Ski Jumping a Mini

February 26th, 2006 | 3 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Right now I am wasting a bit of time before I watch the rugby online live thanks to my friends at the BBC. In this process I found this:

Ski Jumping a Mini

The guys at Top Gear have done it again!

Also go here to see them race a speed skater with a Jaguar and see the Stig ski jump a snow mobile! (links are on the right)

Feeling better

February 24th, 2006 | 3 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

So I am feeling better today, the virus spread seems to have ceased as well with no more reports of newly smitten people.

Two things to point out, firstly the post two posts ago:
St Patrick’s Day

Secondly, just for fun, I added BabelFish translation from Altavista to the page. Check out the little box on the bottom right and if you speak another language you can click a flag and see the terribly badly done literal translation that it returns! (eg how the french one returns St Patrick as Rue Patrick. Cos we are obviously having a day to celebrate Patrick street…)

On top of all this, my geeky senses are tingling… Lately I have been itching to do geeky stuff… Last year my geek time was all spent on my final year project and since then I have designed my web site (the one you are looking at) but haven’t really done much other geeky stuff. And now my geek instincts are desperately urging me to do something geeky… But there just isn’t anything geeky to hand! I feel like when I was doing my A-Levels and I wanted to do geeky stuff, like design websites and build my mp3 player thing that I made and all kinds of stupid geek stuff and just don’t have the time or the resources to do it. So I made plans for all the stuff I’d do when my exams are over, and now I am doing the same, I keep thinking “when I get back to NI…” and finish it with something geeky…
I think as well I begin to worry that I am getting left behind in some way by not being involved with geek stuff. But to be honest I don’t think I’m getting that left behind…

Nodobirusu

February 22nd, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

So here I am in my room with a nodobirusu… although I am at a loss as to how a ”throat virus” can make someone call uncle Hughie on the big white denwa…

So we are all sick… Someone brought it to evening worship on sunday and now every english speaking Christian in the Tsugaru is laid up…

So please pray for:
Abby - JET english teacher
Sarah H - JET english teacher
Laurie - an Elliot
Sarah - an Elliot
Angela - OMF Missionary
the Ghents - OMF Missionary family
me - me

Also pray for everyone else to not get sick…

Thanks!

St Patrick’s Day

Ok, so here’s the deal. We are going to do an Irish night for St Paddy’s day here in Aji. We want to run an event for young people and we need ideas that might be good for young folk! It’d be nice to have an outreach element, but also be fun as Angela is hoping to start a youth group off the back of it…

I have been thinking about things like food, music, possibly some dancing, St Patrick story, that kind of stuff…
But if any of you have ideas post a comment and let me know :)

There’s no boarding like snowboarding!

February 18th, 2006 | 8 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Finally today we went snowboarding! I went with Aaron and Harako-san* to Ajigasawa Ski-jo and on a borrowed board, in borrowed snow-trousers and on borrowed time I learned how to get from the top of the slope to the bottom and only rolling part of the way!

For those of you who are thinking “so did you get hurt?” yes I guess I did a little… The very first thing we did was to get on the ski lift, one of the slide-on-slide-off ones and the sliding on is pretty easy, but when you have never tried sliding off before, and indeed rarely slid anywhere in the first place, it proves a little more difficult getting off and I indeed fell on my rear end. Right on my tailbone (coccyx for my brother and others with that kind of anatomical knowledge), which is still hurting even now… But to be honest that was the only really painful fall, the rest were pretty tame, even at pace, but each time the bouncing brought back memories of that first one by the lift as my poor little wannabe tail got jarred.

But, aside from that it was great, infact I’d say if it hadn’t been for that first fall the day would have been practically perfect! By the end I was even gliding back and forth across the piste as though I actually knew a little about what I was aiming to achieve! Hopefully next time I will have a less painful time and can build on the foundations put down today! Because there is going to be a next time!

*watch this space for name update after I affirm its spelling with Aaron tomorrow…
