Good news travels fast!

Prit asked if people here are talking about western European sporting history being made on Wednesday night…

My homestay ”Dad” (Mr Ishihara) spotted this in the Asahi Shimbun (major newspaper in Japan):

The headline says “Shameful England” and the sub is basically says its been 33 years and not expected from NI.

It’s a shame the photo isn’t of NI, but I think they just picked one with Beckham in it. The article does talk about Healy’s goal though…

the typhoon passed calmly enough, the forecast wind speeds turned out to be no more than a school-boy error on the part of NHKs forecasters.

In other news Northern Ireland ’s football team spent yesterday evening giving England a good thrashing (exaggeration? me?)

Anyway, a historical moment in NI history.

The news for past 48 hours or so has had pictures from Kyushu, most Southern of the 4 main islands of Japan. they have been of typhoon number 14 (ie the 14th one this season) and it is one of the biggest.
towns have been flooded roads blocked with debris and fallen trees, people missing people missing and injured.
Now it is leaving kyushu and following an arcing path over the Japan sea and is increasing in size. In the next couple of days it is due here in Hokkaido, the forecast wind speed is 50 m/s (180km/h)…

Yikes…

Another week

So whats new this time?

Well, I have been studying more and I have come to a conclusion… Japanese is hard!

But just living here has led me to realise just how vital being able to speak it world be to a ministry in Japan. Or even
just an enjoyable life in Japan! It has given me new respect for and appreciation of the difficulties expirenced by all of the foreign students who I was at uni with…

Aside from that… yesterday I went to a “performance carnival” in Sapporo. Went to Hokuen church today and joined in the youth group (there was a girl just back from 4 years of study in Vancouver who was kind enough to translate for me) And found a real computer I was able to use for a while, so there are some photos uploaded into the photo gallery, some got messed up though…
