Change is looming…

June 29th, 2005 Posted in Uncategorized

Change is always scary. Particularly when it isn’t known or certain change. When it is to something that you have not experienced or undergone before .

Now when I think about what I will be doing for the next year, and when I think just how close it is to being a reality, it begins to become a daunting thing. I don’t know why though, mostly thinking about it brings a sense of excitment, riding the trains, learning Japanese, working with Japanese people etc… It all makes me long to leave. However, when I begin to think about where God is taking me and what He wants me to do the excitment starts to fade into anxiousness.

Now this isn’t so unusual for me, when I was younger I remember praying that God wouldn’t call me to missions or ministry (in the full-time sense) mostly becanse I knew that being rich (in the monetary sense) and working for God don’t usually go hand in hand. Obviously my ideas have changed somewhat and I now understand that monetary wealth isn’t the most important thing in life. But I still have some reserves and worries (not necessarily wealth related!) still crop up now and again. The difficult part is discerning what is uneasyness from God and what is Satan trying to bring me down.

Something cool of late though… My friend Natania has just arrived in Ichikawa (site of OMF JHQ) and reading her email and blog really make me long to head back to Japan. It reminds me of an application that Bryan gave of Psalm 37 (verse 4) to missions work (and life in generaI)
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”

God gives us our Godly desires when he creates us, and when we delight ourselves in Him and live for Him he gives us those desires again by realising them to us.
